sorry, but I have tried it too Long and I am kind of fed up with it so I have to better ask the right people to answer that question.
I would like to use location tracking for some szenes and automations but in Android you have to allow the app to have access to the location information all the time. Even tough there is no update it will warn you with the green icon at the top corner.
I have an Amoled display and that icon is annoying anayways, so I asked myself how I could use that feature without that permission or maybe in a different way.
I strongly suspect this is an Android 14 requirement and you cannot get rid of it without rooting. My previous Android phone (on Android 10/11) didn’t show this icon, despite my HA app being configured in exactly the same way.
Personally, it annoys me too and I was also concerned about my Amoled screen, but then I figured that the battery/wifi other icons are always there too, plus my phone is locked most of the time, so screen degradation is minimised.
I figure I’ll just learn to ignore it - by the time it actually causes issues on my screen, it’ll probably be time to get a new phone anyway.
Correct, I have also tried to use that to have at least the option to differenciate between work, gym, or such things. But bad luck, it does not work. I don’ think I will go for a custom rom. At least if I do not know which one could solve that issue.
Any suggestions? Maybe I will use Xiaomi.eu and use root there…
pixel devices never had such a feature, in all my experience I have only seen users on custom ROMs encounter it. MIUI might be one of them which Xiaomi uses. Pretty sure Samsung also does not use it.
The light makes no sense because its not related to GPS but anything that android deems as a location request. Even looking at the WiFi ssid will cause this to appear and the app has a lot of logic around internal vs external URL handling which is all done based on teh connected SSID. Not to mention various sensors as well.
