How to use Media Control card? and TTS

I must not know where to look. I have a Google Home Mini. It was automatically discovered.
I have the media-control card and media player entity in ui-lovelace.yaml. Everything looks OK, but I can’t figure out how to play music to it. I have mp3s on a NAS, on my Android Phone, on my PC, but I have no idea how to point the media_player to it to play any of it.
What am I missing?

Also, TTS used to work, may releases ago, but I haven’t had it working for a while now.
I’m on 0.91.2

Update: tts.google_say will only say ‘Hello’
not ‘hello’, or ‘HELLO’, or any other word. Just ‘Hello’ spelled and capitialized ExAcTlY like that.
Strange.
