How to wire a Sonoff ZBMINI L2 Extreme for EU 2-way Light Switches

So it’s back to momentary switch.
Try adding a tiny spring on sw1 & sw2

I have tried so many different combinations but I got something working. For the love of … I don’t even figured out where my Sw1 and Sw2 are.

On the first floor I have three cables. I presume Sw1, Sw2 and the lamp.
Upstairs I have 2 cables, probably Sw1 and Sw2.

I have wired it as follows:
L in: new live from the socket
L out: to the lamp
S1: what I presume is SW2 upstairs, but with the wire split, so it is still at the switch
S2: the wire I think is the lamp light from the first floor.

I can use the ZBMINI through the app.
I was not able to use the switches as a rocker. I switched the ZBMINI to the other mode. But since I see no option to get the spring behind the switches, it means I need to doubles rock the switches every time.

The switch of the first floor I will be able to replace with a momentary switch (I need to search hard though, since there are three cables in it)

The one upstairs is giving me no hope of being replaced.

Ok let’s just use upstairs and first floor terms.
Grab a test pen, leave the bulb on, turn off the breakers.
Now at upstairs, disconnect the cable from terminal, turn on the breaker and check with test pen. For example if the test pen lights up, that means the live cable is at first floor.

I think it’s still possible because it looks like yours have still enough gap behind it. I’d recommend getting a an extra similar switch and try inserting the spring there.

What do you mean by this part? Just remove the cable from the switch in question?

There’s 3 terminal block on the switch.
You’d usually have 2 cable going to the other switch, and 1 terminal for the incoming live & outgoing light bulb (just this one you need to remove)

I’ve done some more testing. I walked a lot of stairs yesterday and today, ha.

So this is the switch on the first floor, with the three cables.

When i remove all the cables, there is still current upstairs, so the live/hot wire should be upstrairs. Right? Since i’ve hooked up the ZBMINI to a live wire from the socket an the lamp is in the L out, I could still use the ZBMINI to turn on the light.

Explored some more. When I remove one of the two upper cables, I can still toggle the ZBMINI and thus the lamp, with the switch on the first floor. But as soon as I remove one of the cables, I cannot use the switch on the second floor.

If I remove the cable on the bottom, I cannot use the switches (nor the one on the first floor, nor the one upstairs) to signal the ZBMINI/Lamp.

This was the wiring during testing. Please don’t look to much at the wrong use of colour. It is what I had laying around. I’m planning on fixing everything as soon as it works as I want (or made peace with another option).

I’ve searched for some pens with springs and managed to get it working, but as soon as I close everything up, it works for 4 or 5 times, and than I hear the spring losing grip and then the mechanism fails me :frowning: . Tips?

I’m not too clear on this one, can you label the the cables that was removed in pictures when you were testing it

It really depends on your switch, some users did use small foam and shove it behind the switch.

The two upper cables don’t influence the switch on the first floor as stated before.

I’ll try this as well!

Do you mind labelling the wires to the zbmini L2
I’m trying to figure out which is which

Hey, thanks again for sticking with me. The problem here is that I don’t know where the cables from the first floor end up once they are upstairs. I only assume that two of them end up at the left and right side of the switch, and one cable Is going to the lamp. How can I find out easily?

They are all black wires…

I have found this site. It is in Dutch, but if you scroll to find "WISSELSCHAKELING (met omloopdraad) " there is a animated picture of what I think I have. So not a traditional 2 way switch.

If that’s correct, then you have incoming live cable going to both switches. And the socket live is probably just looped from the same point

i believe this could be wire you disconnected when you couldn’t use both switches

That would be the most logical explanation, at least with my knowledge.

Do you have a suggestion on wiring the Zbmini so u I can use the switches normally?

It is working now but I have to double switch in order to change states (on or off). For the switch on the first floor I have found a replacement (though expensive for the simple thing it is, mainly due shipping) but I can’t seem to find a solution with AND a momentary switch and a socket (type F / schulp).

Haven’t deal with this wiring before but should be like this

Not sure about this one, try changing the switch mode

I think i have tried this already, but will try again (in the weekend)
