Hi!
I know it’s been a while, and you probably don’t need this anymore, but I recently came across something that could solve your issue and might help others as well.
The Sonoff BasicR4 (Wi-Fi), and more recently the Basic Gen5 (Wi-Fi + Matter), have what Sonoff calls Magic Switch Mode.
Basically, you add a wire (the little “bridge” in red) at either end so that the conductors between the wall switches are always live, then install the Sonoff module at the light fitting, since it needs neutral there.
Once Magic Switch Mode is enabled in the eWeLink app, the module can detect the brief power interruption caused by toggling any wall switch and use that to switch the lamp on or off, instead of simply cutting power to the module.
This app is not needed anymore after activating this mode.
That means the light can still be controlled from the existing wall switches, while the Sonoff stays powered the whole time.
So it keeps working as a normal light circuit even without any home automation setup, so you’re not dependent on a hub, server, or automation system for basic use. The smart features are just an extra on top.
Hope this helps.
