What am I supposed to use to log in to HA? I configured a DDNS so I can access HA outside my network and figured HTTPS would be the way to go. I was using https://x.x.x.x:8123 locally as well after adding both to the external and interal links in the configuration.
The reason I asked was I was having issues logging into HA on iOS devices using HTTPS and had to switch back to HTTP. Honestly it’s all quite confusing. Any insights would be appreciated!
Also, wanted to mention that I have SSH & Terminal & file Editor installed and for whatever reason I get errors when I access via local host than using my dns url.
Unless you have TLS setup, you won’t be able to use https. You can use http, but you have to set up port forwarding on your router. You’ll use your external up and port (8123) to get to HA. Port forwarding tells you router to forward any 8123 traffic to your internal HA IP’s port 8123.
BE VERY CAREFUL that you have a strong password on your HA instance since it’s exposed to the internet. You will, however, see alerts of any failed login attempts.
Or, if you’re willing to part with $5 (I think) monthly, nabu casa is ridiculously easy and something I’d recommend. It will establish external access for you.
