I’m looking at getting a Hue Starter kit to replace some of my Tuya based globes in hope to reduce the delay when things are triggered in HA to switch them on/off.
My question is with the Hue Bridge, does HA communicate with it directly on the local network, or is it still going out & back via the internet? Ideally I want to move away from internet based solutions as much as possible. Otherwise I might go down the Conbee path for controlling them.
Home Assistant’s Philips Hue integration communicates directly with your Hue Bridge via your LAN.
If you ever want to know how a given integration communicates, look at its documentation page and on the right hand side you’ll IOT Class. If it says ‘local polling’ that means the integration communicates locally (and polls the device). That’s the IOT class for the Philips Hue integration.
Yeah, that will definitely be the plan as I expand the range of devices over time. As of now it will just be a few globes to replace the slow Tuya globes.
