Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor Sensitivity levels

Is there anyway I can turn down the sensitivity for a Philips Hue Outdoor motion sensor in Node-RED?

Hello, I am trying to learn Node-Red and have successfully (well partially) setup a Philips Hue Outdoor Motion sensor on my front gate which announces over Google devices in the house when it detects movement.

My issue is that the sensor seems too sensitive. I only want it to alert me when a person or a vehicle enters the drive. At the moment if, for example, a small bird flys past or lands on a hedge 1.5m away, it triggers the alert.

I have searched but to no avail but to be honest, I don’t even know if I’m searching the right thing!

Thank you

I don’t know this sensor.
What exactly do you get from the sensor?

  • only motion detected
  • motion detected → no motion anymore

How often does it send the message? (only once per motion or every x seconds)

Or could you even configure the sensor itself from an app?

This seems to be quite common with hue outdoor motion sensors being too sensitive. I assume that the motion sensor itself is turned down to at most 25%? Other than that the only thing you can do is require multiple motion triggers before being alerted.

Thanks for your reply. In the sensor history, I see two states: Detected and Clear. I don’t know how to check how often it sends the message but I’m using a state change node in the flow.

I was trying to avoid using individual apps as I want to have everything in one place - hence the need for Home Assistant.

Again, thanks for the reply. I haven’t figured out how to change the sensitivity at all but under ‘Attributes’ in HA, the sensor shows:
Battery level 100
Sensitivity 2
Sensitivity max 4

So if my maths are correct that would be 50%! However these are default settings as I have no idea how to change this. If this is configured in the app, I was again hoping to have everything under one roof rather than relying on the dev app to change settings but if that’s the only way I will take a look.

Also - does the ‘Sensitivity max’ setting come into play at all?

Thanks again for your help.

What integration are you using zha, z2m? If you are using ZHA you should be looking for cluster customization (whithin your device window in ZHA). I can’t help you any further because I’never needed it but I know sensitivy can be adjusted through them.

Standard Philips Hue integration with HueMagic node, although not using HueMagic for this particular flow.

I tried to find the cluster in ZHA and adjust sensitivity level but it still says 2 …
