Hi guys,
Before going down a rabbit hole of investigation I’d like to ask the community a question.
I’m currently in the process of transferring my Hue system from the old Hue Bridge (v1) to HASSIO using a zigbee dongle (Sonoff Zigbee 3 Dongle Plus) and Home Assistant OS. So I currently have Hue controlling most of my lights for now. I have also purchased Hue Wall Switch Modules and paired with ZHA. I’ve for now set HASS to turn on lights through the bridge based on the two light switches, until I find time to pair all the lights in the house directly to HASS.
I now have an issue where the new switches often don’t register, not just missing a click here and there, but not working for minutes or longer on end and eventually showing up as “unavailable” in ZHA. And on top of that I’m on the third battery in 1 week’s time.
I have measured power usage of the switches by hooking up an external 3V supply and a multimeter. Except for when the LED lights up when pairing, the current draw is in the order of micro-amps with occasional wake-ups visible as short, bursty ~0.5 mA draws. So I know the hardware is OK.
So now my Q: Is this a known issue, known bad setup or does anyone have any pointers? I could sit there and wait for the buttons’ power draw to go up, but that would still tell me nothing of value.
Kind regards,
Joey
EDIT: After pairing the rest of my hue system, including the bulbs around the house, I noticed battery use of the switches has dramatically improved. I’ve also disabled periodic polling by ZHA. After 2 days the batteries still show 100% instead of being dead.
