Husbzb-1 and Zigbee Reliability for extended periods of time

Just wanted to share an experience I had last week which might be useful for others.

I was out of town for a week. I’m often tinkering with my HA install, so I doubt I’ve ever gone more than a few days between reboots or without sensors going on/off. Anyway, while I was gone, my HA instance seemed to run rock solid. Lights turned on/off as scheduled, several automations ran, etc. When I got home I was surprised to find that some of my lighting automations based on doors opening closing or motion in specific rooms were not working. With a little investigation, I found that all of my zigbee devices were no longer reporting. ALL of them. A quick restart of HA fixed everything. Here’s the biggest concern/issue. Most of my “burglar alarm” automations are based on doors opening/closing, or motion in the house. In my case if my house had been broken into, I would not have received a single notification. I’m do like my zigbee devices, they are much smaller than most comparable zwave devices I’ve seen, but need to figure out how best to make sure that does not happen again. Maybe a scheduled reboot?

Anyway, not really looking for help, just sharing an experience in hopes that it might help others to be prepared in the future.

Actually I’m just in the process of potentially switching to zigbee2mqtt away from my DEAD HUSBZB-1 stick. :rage:

It’s been running fine for a year and a few weeks ago it started acting stupid. At first the connected devices wouldn’t work. At that time a reboot fixed it. A couple of weeks later it happened again but this time I just needed to pull the stick and re-insert. Then a few days ago the thing just pretty much died. the stick is still being seen by the system (most of the time) at the correct tty address but none of the devices work and I get “delivery failure” errors when I try to toggle anything from the GUI.

Luckily I only have 4 light bulbs that work on zigbee so it’s not much of a loss to have to run those the old fashioned way  until my new hardware comes in.
