New here and looking for some advice.
Does anyone here have experience setting up the HUSBZB-1 with Home Assistant on Linux that could offer some pointers?
I’m running HA OS on a VM on VirtualBox within Windows 11, and cant seem to get the device to show up in the Configuration > Addons > System > Host > Hardware menu.
Instructions for installing the Zigbee integration indicate that a " /dev/ttyUSB0" should be present in this list, but it is not. Only several entries named “event0” (0-11 are present), as well as “ttyS0” (0-3 are present)
Instructions followed: Zigbee Home Automation - Home Assistant
I did come across a review on Amazon for the HUSBZB that pointed me to the Silicon Labs CP210x Windows USB to UART Bridge drivers, of which I have installed and both antennas appear in the device manager within Windows (one each for Zigbee and Z-wave)
I have tried both the Windows and Generic Windows drivers, performing a full Windows reboot in between. Neither driver version succeeded in causing this entry to appear.
I also read somewhere that using a USB extension cable would help, but it did not.
I also tried adding a USB filter in VirtualBox, but saw no change either with or without the filter.
Also tried changing the bits per second from 9600 to 57600 for each antenna, as the latter is the value that is pre set during configuration of the Zigbee Integration. And of course restarting the VM in between changing this setting. This also had no effect.
Pretty much out of ideas here, any help in getting this thing to show up is greatly appreciated!
If you installed the driver correctly per those Amazon instructions, you should see both the zwave and zigbee sides as COM ports and not USB. I use HA OS in virtualbox with a windows host also, and pass the COM ports in virtualbox, which works for me.
I do show both appearing as COM ports in the device manager. Mine show as COM4 and COM5.
What do you mean by pass the COM ports in virtualbox? Is this the USB filter?
I do see an entry for a “Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc”, which shares the same PID (8A2A) as the HUSBZB in device manager. I have tried adding this and rebooting the VM, but to no avail.
Ive tried enabling the serial port and matching the port number to my COM#, but it didn’t work. The Port Number dropdown only seems to go up to COM4, but mine are COM4 and COM5, so I’m not sure how I would add COM5.
Still though, I tried proceeding with the Zigbee setup just to add COM4, tried putting in the Serial device path field one at a time:
/dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS1
/dev/ttyS2
/dev/ttyS3
…none worked.
To add to the confusion, I did have this set up previously on a different Windows 10 machine that had no issues recognizing the device during the Zigbee integration setup. I remember when setting it up that it did in fact show up as /dev/ttyUSB# under that Hardware submenu, and I dont remember changing any of the settings in the Serial or USB tabs. I looked in the VirtualBox settings on that computer, and sure enough I did not have any Serial ports or USB filters enabled. Of course now when I go back to this old machine to replicate the results, I cant…
I know initially it took me a lot of trial and error. Maybe try reinstalling the drivers? I know on the siliconlabs site they have a few different ones and seem to update them occasionally?
Turns out that only AFTER enabling some of these USB filters, does an ADDITIONAL filter become available named “Silicon Labs HubZ Smart Home Controller”
…and voila!
