I can't control my lights from entity or button cards

For the past hour, I can’t control my lights from entity or button cards.

And, while I am composing this, the front-end is working normally again.

This is a recent development. I have many switches and lights on Lovelace, like below.

basement

When I turn an entity on or off from Lovelace, the device does turn on or off.
But a few seconds later, the switch icon on the lovelace page turns off. The device stays on.

It is my understanding that this means that the state is not being updated by the device.

I can control the devices from automations and from the device page (Zigbee or ESPHome).

It appears that the issue is limited to the front-end.

Any ideas why this might happen?

Front-end debugging 101:

  • Did you clear your browser cache?
  • Did you try another web browser?

Yes this is usually cause by not receiving state messages in a timely manner. Do the switches eventually get the correct state?

Is it all lights or just the zigbee ones?

It’s all lights and switches. ESPHome and Zigbee.
Of course I tried a different browser and clearing the cache.
I also restarted Home Assistant.

This is the weird part- the switches and lights turn on/off almost instantly. It’s only the Lovelace indicator that always returns to its prior state.

Also, as I mentioned, the issue resolved itself as I was entering my question above. I am just curious to the cause.

A few hours prior I did do a restore to last night’s backup because I had so badly screwed up an entity and its integration. II have to wonder if Home Assistant was doing something in the background causing the states to not update??
