I have been away for quite some time...Need advice...again

Hello again HA forum. I have been away for quite some time. Long story but health is better and ready to tackle this home automation process again. There is so much I have missed since I was last able to get involved with setting up my system. I still plan on using Hass.io on a RaPi3 along with a Z-Wave stick attached to the Pi. I will actually be doing a completely new install. I also plan on having 2 tablets to use as remotes/controls for the system using some sort of an interface.

I was hoping I could get some quick recommendations from you all as to the best and most up-to-date approach to getting started again. Any big updates or better ways out there now that I should consider? Or should I stick with Hass.io and plug away at it.

Thank you all again for all the help you provided to me many months ago. It was not in vein as I have thankfully retained most of what you all taught me and feel comfortable jumping in head first again.

Glad to hear you are feeling better! Welcome back!

Over the past few months there have been several innovations notably the Lovelace UI (which will eventually supersede the Frontend UI), a superior authentication system (access tokens for per user authentication and not just one universal API password), expansion of efforts to improve auto-discovery of devices, and the formation of Nabu Casa, which is a separate company headed by Paulus, providing cloud-based services for a modest fee.

Although I don’t use Hass.io, it continues to be refined and improved. It remains the easiest way to install and manage Home Assistant.

Thank you for the response. I was just looking at some videos about Lovelace. Looks nice and easy. I will likely be going in that direction.
