I think I need help understanding zones with Home and Work

I’ve worked from home for a decade, but now I have an office that’s less than a half mile from me. I’ve added a zone for Work, but when I’m there the high accuracy doesn’t turn off (but it does show me in the Work zone).

At first I thought it was because my zone.home.extended included the work zone, so I made them both smaller. But that isn’t helping either.

I also have the setting enabled for only turn on High Accuracy in zone.home and zone.work.

What am I missing?

are teh zones overlapping? with that short of a drive maybe connected BT device is better?

The actual zones don’t overlap, but the extended zones did. I think I’ve maded the extended ones small enough that they don’t overlap.

ok since its a short trip, you can try check the app logs to see the log lines for zones being entered adn exited that should help clarify if the app sees those transitions happening as they should…its a short time interval so having high accuracy on all the time in the car may be better. Zones require googles geofencing API to notify us immediately of each event so if the app doesnt get each event it expects it may not work well.

All I see in the logs is that high accuracy is enabled because I’m in an expanded zone. It actually lists both home and work expanded.

That’s the issue they all need to be exited

Is there a reason that high accuracy shouldn’t be turned off once inside a zone? Obviously it doesn’t work for me. Just wondering what use case I’m missing.

depends on how you configured it. If using expanded or not. The main way is it depends on the list in the logs being populated or empty. All zones are tracked for entry/exit and both events are expected for each zone in the list. Based on you saying the list was still populated it wont turn off. Its expecting the list to be empty but due to the overlap or close proximity its unable to.

Any ideas how to manage this then? Work and office are probably less than a mile apart. I don’t really need to track work, I was just hoping that I could get high accuracy to turn off when I’m in the office.

why not use bluetooth constraint instead of teh zone constraint assuming your car has BT?
