That I’m guessing is the Hass.io image. The console login uses root, no password. Your actual user account will be set up through the UI.

Indeed no password but since when we use no password for a root account???
What happens when i do set a password for root?
E.g. are there consequences when a do so for a proper functioning HA? (or services that uses connection to the internet/cloud)

You can only log in as root on the physical console. The lack of a password is aimed at end-user convenience since the options are:

  1. Set a default password and have everybody complain about that
  2. Force people to pick a password that most people will then forget
