I want to use NabuCasa, but I have domains.google URL to access my HA instance remotely

Hello all.

I currently have a domains.google account that I use to access my HA instance remotely with ha.domainname.com. I have it set up with SSL with let’s encrypt, and I have it configured with dynamic DNS that reports back my HA IP to my domains.google account. I also went through the ordeal of getting my Nest SDM set up through my custom domain name so my HA instance shows my nest cam streams.

However, I still have a bunch of devices on SmartThings that my family uses to control with Google Assistant. I want to jump in and integrate with NabuCasa, get those SmartThings devices natively in HA, and use NabuCasa to bring in Google Assistant and support the wonderful HA devs.

What options do I have with my domain name after I hook up my instance with NabuCasa? I was poking around the domains.google and saw that I can redirect. Is that all I need to do? Going this route, after I go to ha.domainname.com, it’ll go to a NabuCasa address? Is there a way I can navigate to the ha.domainname.com and although it goes to NabuCasa, would it still show ha.domainname.com?

Just want to know what I would need to do before I start to make changes to my set up. Thanks in advance!

Hi, i wanted to mention that nest no longer requires redirect urls w/ SSL if that helps you. Instead now you copy/paste a code manually rather than relying on a redirect. However, if this works for you, you can keep using it.

Do I even need SSL? I just want to have my google domain domainname.com be my home assistnat remote ui address.
