Ideas for Catching Downtime of Scheduled Backup

Hi folks… I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas for how to reliably monitor my backup solution. I have a Synology diskstation running on a power schedule that has it turning on for a few hours every couple days to run backup tasks. If for some reason it doesn’t turn on or if the backup fails, I’d like to get a Home Assistant notification. Things that don’t seem to work are listed below:

  • The Home Assistant Synology integration assumes the Diskstation is always on, so I’m not using it even though it would be nice to have all the sensors available
  • The built-in Diskstation notifications don’t include Webhooks or MQTT in the 6.2 version I’m stuck on
  • I use Uptime Kuma for monitoring my always-on services and have that notify via Home Assistant webhooks, but again, I don’t think this works for sometimes-on services like my backups

Let me know if anyone has any good ideas–thanks!
