Ideas structuring the dashboard

Hello,
ok i’m quite sure this is going to be the most stupid question you’ll see today, but this is something i’ve been wondering about for a while and now it’s time to look for help
This is general: how do you structure your dashboards?
I mean, for some things it makes sense to have a dedicated dashboard:

  • i have a dashboard for my surveillance cameras
  • i have a dashboard for info coming from the weather station ,radar and so on
  • i have a dashboard for info about the monitoring of proxmox, routers and switches.

Seems to make sense. But what about the “base” dashboard, the one managing iot devices (that likely are used also by less-techy family members)? now i have a big dashboard organized in rooms with all entities listed, but step by step i’m adding devices (like a child :D) and i can understand it looses usability, so what’s your solution? are you creating a dashboard for every room? or a dashboard for device type? or something else?
For example, as of today i’m not using “climate cards”, because i just have the entities links listed, but i see dozilions of cards, and hacs code, and i honestly can’t find a safe way to follow

Thanks

Its a good question. I think a good, useful dashboard needs a plan before building anything. What device will access it - phone, pc, or dedicated wall mounted tablet? A wall mounted tablet might have the main view focused on devices and tasks for that particular room. A phone might have the most accessed tasks like unlock door, open garage etc.

I like to list my devices, entities and tasks in Excel and break them down into views. Editing in excel is much quicker than in a dashboard.

This helps me organize it in my head before building dashboards. Without a plan I inevitably end of going down rabbit holes and getting lost.
