Ikea PRAKTLYSING blinds firmware with ZHA

I have 7 of these blinds and all work well. However they’re inconsistent with reporting of firmware.

  • Two know which version they’re on (0x23088631) but the firmware entity shows ‘unknown’. I bought these two first, whereas the remaining 5 were all bought together but a year or so later.
  • One knew which version it was on (0x23088631) and also knew the firmware is up-to-date. But then a day later it didn’t know either.
  • Four don’t show a version and the firmware entity shows ‘unknown’

Have others experienced similar?

Hi Michael,

HA now (as of 2024.9.0) reports unknown as the presumed state if the manufacturer has not provided HA with firmware to update their devices. This is a recent change, the default used to be up to date.

Firmware update entity logic has changed. A device will only be considered “up-to-date” if there is a known firmware update for it and the current firmware version is greater. If there is no known firmware update, the device firmware state will be considered “unknown”, as we can’t tell if it’s up to date or not.
Previously we showed “up-to-date” if there was no known firmware which misrepresented the state for many devices.

Thanks for the info - however what I don’t understand is why 7 identical devices behave in different ways. Today three of the blinds are reporting as up-to-date although they don’t show the version number like the two mentioned in the first bullet point in my original post. So this is a 4th variation in what they’re reporting.

Across the 7 Ikea blinds, these are the variations I’m seeing now (and last-seen for them all is within the last hour):

This shows firmware version and Unknown:

This shows no firmware version and Up-to-date:

This shows no firmware version and Unknown:
