IKEA Speaker with Pi Zero and Mic Array

Has anyone tried modifying any of the IKEA speakers to add a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and ReSpeaker 2 Mic Hat (or 4 Mic Array) ?

Just an idea, but I’ve been trying to find teardowns to see if this would be possible.

Even JBL or some other brand could be good.

Check in the section of the forum for the Voice Assistant Contest; I believe there should be something like this in there.

Thanks. I did. Other than one with a JBL Flip 5 and an Echo Dot, I didn’t find much.

Maybe this teardown would be helpful. This speaker might be better as a permanent benchtop assistant.

Also since Google firmware update bricked my old Google Home Mini and customer support did nothing to replace or fix it, i took it apart, threw away the google stuff, kept speaker, added a Lolin S3 mini, 4 leds, same things i think as the JBL project.

Got to test my Aliexpress desoldering hotplate and steal the original stuff  don’t know what (and if i ever will know how to) do with them.

End result looks like before, but is better - own software, leds can do more fun stuff, etc. Didn’t take a pic from the inside, and can’t take it apart since I superglued it together, very tight fit.

Best part of the hack was extending the original usb hole to the Lolin board - so I can connect it via the outside hole to computer to debug, log and stuff

Edit: also repurposed the mute switch and bottom reset button as gpio to do fun stuff with, so all features remain.

Thanks Veli, this is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see!

I think I have a bricked Google Home / Nest Mini somewhere so I’ll have to see if I can fit a pi zero in there.
