Ikea Tradfri gateway stops

Hi all,

Figured it was better posting this here where people know what they are talking about
My Tradfri gateway hangs, or dies every day. If i unplug it, and plug it back in again its fine. Anyone else experienced this? Is it home assistant’s integration of it that causes this?

I have the same problem. It’s not every day but at least once in 48 Hours. If i power cycle the gateway, all problems are gone.

Had you ever run it without home-assistant integration? Im just wondering if that has something to do with it.

Not really,
i have the remote paired but i used it only a few times.

me neither, kinda ran with both from day one.

That is an interesting idea but I haven’t tried that yet. I have random hang ups but maybe only once a month or so.

Just to provide more data.

I’ve had the Ikea system for a couple of months now, not yet connected to HA, and have had to power cycle the gateway two or three times over that period when it appears to stop working.

Ah, so maybe its not neccessarily related to home-assistant. Maybe homeassistant just exasperates the issue…

I’m intending to hook up with HA soon, I’ll post back here if the problem gets worse after that.

Thanks, that would be helpful

Someone posted somewhere (on this forum I think) that the hubs might have a thermal issue.

Interesting. Maybe I should move it. It is with some of my other hubs/router stuff.

I actually expect it to be software related. Hopefully it will be fixed in a newer firmware.

Lets hope as i moved from limitlessled to these, and the limitless ones didnt break very often, but i wanted something more readily available and supported…

I have had the same issue a couple of times in the las month an a half, but I noticed that if I only reboot the bridge it is still hangs, I need to reboot Home-Assistant also in orther to make it work again.

oh interesting. Its possible that home-assistant loses access to the gateway then stops checking it after a period of time?
What I need to do is wait for the gateway to enter the broken state and do some analysis. Does it lose complete network access or does it just stop responding.

That’s a good idea. If it stops responding to a ping you could power it on a smart switch and have HA power cycle the switch if that happens.

I wonder if the rPi3 has enough power to drive the hub. Just kidding. This would be stupid.

haha, i suspect it wouldn’t be far short…but still probably not enough

Having the same issue with my gateway.
