Ikea Tradfri Motion sensor via Zigate in ZHA does not trigger

Hi all,

I have paired two Ikea Tradfri motion sensors via my Zigate USB stick in ZHA.
I see the “walking man” icon, with “not detected” stated behind it. The Icon never turns yellow, and/or the state never turns into “detected”.

The devices are connected, or at least the “last seen” status is frequently updated and the battery levels also work. I’ve read about listening to state changes in the dev manager tool, but I’m not sure to what state, trigger or action I must listen. Motion? Motion_on?

I’ve read that some Zigbee gateways work better with this device than others, but according to the Zigate site, this device should work. Perhaps in this case I must als bind/connect a lamp to it?

I’m not quite sure where to look for possible hints or solutions. Maybe someone here can help me?

Thanks!

BR.

The state of a binary_sensor like a motion sensor is alway ON of OFF (or unknown), only the visual interpretation in the UI depends on the device’s class.

Hi Christoph,

Ah yes, I have rephrased my post. Thanks.

Thomas

Notification of movement to Home assistant should be independent of coupled lamps. However, you could pair a lamp directly with the sensor to test its functionality (apart from Home Assistant).

But I would first check that the settings on the back of the sensor result in a message at any time of day or night and at any brightness.

Ah yes, so the motion sensor works when paired with a bulb and controlled via the Ikea gateway.
I’m not quite sure how this works in HA (via binding?), but I will give it a go.

I’ll add an Ikea lamp to my ZHA config later today.

I’ve set the sensor to all possible options: daylight/dark, full brightnes/dimmed. But alas, nothing.

Thanks for your input and I’ll let you know my findings.

Alas. I can not get the Tradfri motion sensor to either bind with an Ikea lamp connected to ZHA or have the sensor trigger at all.

Is it possible that the Zigate stick, or ZHA is not compatible with the Tradfri sensor?
