Hello,
I decided to experiment with an Ikea Tredansen blind as these are smart and cost a fraction of the likes of Luxaflex. I’m doing my best to avoid buying hubs and bridges to try to keep the airwaves congestion free, so I checked on Blakadder’s site and Tredansen is shown as compatible with ZHA.
For my experiment, I purchased one cellular blind. It was slightly oversized for the opening, but after googling I disassembled the blind and reduced the width by 50mm (for the 600mm blind the width can be reduced by up to 52mm).
The packaging contains the roller blind, the remote control and a Zigbee signal repeater.
Pairing the blind.
In HA settings, devices, ZHA, scan for devices. Then press and hold the blind’s up and down buttons for 5 seconds. Soon after that the device is found, interviewed and added to my dashboard.
Pairing the remote
Press the pairing button 4 times within 5 seconds and it should be detected in HA. This took a while, until I figured that the remote I had and the spare batteries that were supplied were all flat. I did manage to get it in ZHA, but not directly linked to the blind.
There are several discussions showing peoples struggle in pairing a blind, with the remote - sometimes involving their Zigbee repeater, in setup’s where the owner does not have an Ikea hub. After an hour of trying to get the remote and blind to pair I gave up and will instead create a script to listen for the remote’s events.
Reporting. The blind position is not showing as a percentage open / closed. Does anyone know if this is reported correctly when using an Ikea bridge for example? I’d like to be able to set the blind to either 0% or 25% open during the winter months to help keep the room warm. Does anyone have a suggestion for how this could be estimated or controlled.
Steve
