Ikea zigbee devices

I’m interested in some Ikea Zigbee devices, specifically the sockets, motion sensor, and door sensor. However, reading on https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io, the door sensor causes problems and is not recommended, while the motion sensor has problems with the 1.5V batteries. The sockets have no problems. So, do you recommend I buy only Ikea sockets for now? Thanks.

I use the sockets, bulbs and the remote controls from Ikea. All of them work well.
The motion sensor from Ikea I used years ago eats the batteries, so I switched to Aqara, for motion and door sensors.

So, of the three products I’m interested in, do you only recommend the Ikea sockets? Are there any cheaper brands for the others? I saw they cost around €20 each.

I have lots of motion sensors , aqara, tuya , tradfri (old Ikea), but the current Ikea valhorn is my favorite. Just make sure you use rechargeable batteries.

I have several of the motion sensors, they are picky about batteries, be sure to buy sufficient ikea AAA batteries and charger.

Except for one that was a dud, they have all worked perfectly (when used with the ikea batteries).

I also have some 3rd reality nightlight/motion sensors, these plug into power outlet, so are potentially less convenient for positioning, but the nightlight is a decent perk and no batteries. I use them in bathrooms/kitchen/bedrooms.

Regarding Ikea door sensors, do you have any experience?

yes work well, also w/ ikea batteries

I had read this

I use >10 Vallhorn motion sensors, 1x Parasoll door sensor and more recently 1x Tretakt plug, and they all work well and are good value. I use IKEA’s batteries and they’ve lasted well.

They’re connected to a Sonoff ZBDongle-P and I use Z2M.

Only problem I’ve had in approx. a year of use is two or three times a motion sensor has stopped sending motion events, but I’ve fixed this by taking batteries out and putting them straight back in.

I saw some YouTube videos that talk about IKEA’s Paradoll Door Sensor. From what I remember, this sensor uses a single AAA battery. The instructions recommend using a rechargable battery. So, the 1.6V voltage from the single battery is increased to 2.2 V using a buck converter which is the voltage required by the zigbee sensor. Because the voltage is being stepped up to a higher level, the battery won’t last very long. I bought one of these sensor to test out, and sure enough the disposable alkaline battery that I used didn’t last more than a few days. It probably would last longer if I used a rechargable battery, but I bet you’d still be changing batteries after 4 weeks or so.

Mine’s reporting 60% battery after over 8 months on a single charge using an IKEA rechargeable battery. It’s on a bedroom door that only gets opened/closed once or twice a day.

Wow, that certainly is a lot different than what I experienced! I’ll have to dig out my IKEA door sensor and test it again using a rechargable battery. 60% battery life after 6 months of use is really good!

my parasoll sensors have also lasted months on ikea rechargables

I hear that some of the IKEA devices are picky about what rechargeable batteries are used too, hence I’ve gone with IKEA’s own batteries.
