I'm looking for a towel rack compatible with home assistant

Hello, I am looking for a towel rack that allows me to connect it to home assistant, to be able to control the climate, but it has the following characteristics:

  - between 300 and 500w
  - Can work independently (you can turn it on, off and change the
temperature both from HA and physically)
  - WiFi connection (No BLE, ZigBee, Zwave, etc.)
  - with IPx3 protection or higher (suitable for a bathroom)

If anyone knows one that meets these criteria, I would be very grateful for the info

Easier to buy a standard heated towel rail and connect it to a smart plug/Shelly.

Yeah, I thought about it, but that depends on two more systems for its operation, this is for my parents’ house, and they don’t want the heating to stop working if the HA crashes or if the shely burns, or worse, it stops working. remains on all the time, so the intention is that it can be controlled physically and at the same time from the home assistant (Temperature and on/off), in this way it can be turned on from the bathroom itself and prevents it from depending solely on the WiFi and HA connection

Yes a smart plug or a Shelly is controllable manually as well as via HA.

The smart plug could be an option, but I can’t control the power, what they want is a system that can go and physically control the temperature and at the same time through automation such as “bath mode” turn on the stove and maintain a certain power. and partly the objective is that if the HA falls, you can go and from a panel or whatever you have it you can control it

Something that also occurred to me is that it works like I have in my house with the wiz lights, they are linked at the same time in the HA and in its APP, if the HA goes down, I can turn on, regulate and change their modes from the mobile.

Can you think of anything for this function?

2 months later?

Ok I’ll engage. What stove? This is a bathroom towel rack isn’t it?

And as I said, plenty of devices can be controlled by both app and home assistant.

Seems you are seeing imaginary problems.

Hello, yes, two months later…
I have a thousand things on my mind…

I’m actually looking for a bathroom towel rack, I don’t speak English, and Google Translate sometimes changes the words, I correct the ones I notice, but some escape me.

These problems are not put by me, but by my father and since I am dedicated to computing and electricity, the brown one falls on me.

What he doesn’t want is that if just one thing goes down the system stops working, that is, that it has some type of redundancy, it occurred to me to use Shelly’s thermostat/hygrometer and that somehow if the home assistant is active, he is the one who activates the relay, but if it is not (for whatever reason) the control is directly from the thermometer/hygrometer to the shelky, but I don’t know how those scripts can be done

If that could be done, I think it would be a plausible option for him.

Keep in mind most smart plugs are not water resistant, or at least they don’t specify their IP ratings.

Yes, it would be done in that case with a shelly relay inside the box on the wall outside the bathroom

Hi, what did you end up doing. I’m in a similar boat looking for a radiator that would work. For me I’m ok and would prefer zigbee or zwave but will work with wifi and ble if needed. Options I found are:

1 dumb radiator with no temperature control and just control with a smart plug

2 temperature controlled radiator and use a smart plug but don’t know if when the plug is off it will loose its temperature setting

3 use #1 bit include a temperature sensor and have home assistant control it.

4 I did find a wifi one but no idea if it will work with home assistant (see link below). I could have home assistant tell Alexa or Google to turn it on but I would like automation control to not be Interrnet dependent.

5 try making something with esphome. Would need just a dumb heating element that just works when plugged in and then flash an esp32 with esphome setup some physical controls and screen at the radiator, use PID script and solid state relay to regulate the temperature and expose it all to home assistant.
