Being really new to all of this home automation jazz, I’m having a really hard time understanding what capabilities my Raspberry Pi has after I install the home assistant. I’m not sure if it’s possible, but I want to run an led ambilight clone for my tv via usb video grabber into my RPI, display a webpage via the RPI hdmi for google calendar, and also run Home Assistant to control various smart devices through my Google Home. I’m not sure if I’m just searching in the wrong places, or just don’t know what to search for, but finding documentation for similar projects has been difficult. If anyone could point me in the right direction I’d really appreciate it! Do I need more than one Raspberry Pi? Thanks!
Well, you will need the LEDs if course but you should be ok with the pi only. Unless you want to run hass.io, because then you will not be able to control the LEDs unless there is an add-on for that and I don’t think there is one.
Are you looking for an LED tutorial or a home assistant install and setup tutorial or what exactly?
Thanks for the reply! I have a pretty good idea on how to use a Pi for the led’s with Hyperion. I also have a reasonably good idea on how to set up a Home assistant hub, as well as how to use a Pi for a MagicMirror. What I am tying to figure out is if it’s possible to use one Raspberry Pi for all three.
I don’t see why not.
The only thing you need to be wary of is that you will want hassbian instead of hassio.
Should work without problems
Use hassbian not hass.io
Good luck
