I started working on this early this year. After running into some issues with ESPHome (Unable to get consistent Remote Receiver data · Issue #251 · esphome/issues · GitHub) and general hardware issues, I have a first Proof of Concept in place!
As one of my YouTube viewers pointed out; I can potentially replace the ESPHome+Broadlink RM Mini3 with just one device, functioning as both the IR receiver & IR blaster. For now I’ll just keep them seperate.
The hardware will be polished up and be more hidden (got a IR repeater set). Looking forward to having a finished product in place soon!
The goal is that everything will be hidden in the cupboard and the physical remote will be outside (except for the single point of entry (IR reciever from the universal remote + the LED to show which device I am controlling). I will have an Ir repeater to hide everything as much as possible (which the harmony does too I believe).
For now there is no Bluetooth or RF available, however once the basics are in place it should be very easy to add
