Hi all,
I just published a first beta of INDI Client, a Home Assistant custom integration for the
INDI protocol used by most astronomy equipment (mounts, cameras, focusers,
filter wheels, domes/roofs, weather stations, etc.).
It connects to a running indiserver as an additional client - the same way CCDciel or
KStars/EKOS would - so it doesn’t take over your rig, it just sits alongside your existing
imaging software and mirrors the same devices/properties as HA entities, bidirectionally.
What it does:
- Reads/sets any device property generically (no hardcoded device list) →
sensor,number,
text,select,switch,binary_sensorentities are created automatically asindiserver
announces them. - Park/unpark a mount, set a CCD’s target temperature, toggle a device’s connection - all from HA
automations/dashboards. - Per-device log sensor + a diagnostic “server connected” sensor for the indiserver link itself.
- Two services (
indi_client.refresh,indi_client.set_property) as an escape hatch for
properties that don’t have a dedicated entity yet. - Config flow, no YAML needed.
Why: so you can do things like parking the mount on a rain sensor trigger, cooling the CCD
before a scheduled imaging session, or getting a notification when a driver reports an Alert -
using HA’s automation engine instead of scripting against the INDI protocol yourself.
It’s an independent/unofficial client, not affiliated with the INDI Library project.
Status: early beta (v1.0.0b1). Protocol core is unit tested, but I’d love more real-world
testing against different drivers/hardware.
