Inkbird Pool thermometer

Hello,

Does anybody know if the Inkbird Pool thermometer is compatible with HA? It’s not listed as a supported device here, but could it still be compatible? INKBIRD - Home Assistant

Link to the inbird bundle I want to purchase: WLAN Swimming Pool Thermometer Bundle - mit Aufstell-Display, Outdoor Hygrometer & Thermometer , Datenlogger, Export-Funktion, Cloud, App (technisch optimiertes Modell) - Poolthermometer Shop - Smarte Pooltechnik

Hi @SebastianB

The outdoor thermometer/hygrometer in the bundle looks like the IBS-TH2, which is transmitting its values over bluetooth, and is already compatible with HA through ble-monitor or the Theengs Gateway addon/OpenMQTTGateway.

The included pool thermometer looks like the IBS-P01R , which transmits over 433Mhz RF, which is currently not supported by OpenMQTTGateway rtl_433_ESP, due to its FSK modulation. Running the full RTL_433 separately on a RPi or such with an SDR stick connected, then passing the values to HA via MQTT would be an option here.

There is also a bluetooth version of the pool thermometer - IBS-P01B - which is already supported as the above IBS-TH2, but doesn’t have an additional separate display, as in your bundle.

If both bluetooth versions would be used then there also would not be a need for the Inkbird Gateway, which is included in your suggested bundle.

So alternatively you could just get an IBS-TH2 and IBS-P01B, if a separate display is not really needed and both would already be supported by HA, and also at half the price

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, @DigiH ! You saved me for extra equipment and and money :star_struck:

As you might understand, I´m new to HA. How does the bluetooth signal from the units get transmitted to the network? The “ble-monitor and the Theengs Gateway addon/OpenMQTTGateway”, is only software, right?

ble-monitor and the Theengs Gateway addon are only software running alongside HA, using the bluetooth adapter of your RPi or other machine running HA.

If the bluetooth distance of that machine is to far away from the pool thermometer and/or outdoor IBS-TH2, then you could also use OpenMQTTGateway on an ESP32 (an extra $7 or so), placing it closer to the pool, which would then pick up the bluetooth signals and pass the MQTT details on to HA’s MQTT broker over WiFi.

Thank you!
