Inspire Gdansk 2.4 GHz RF protocol decoded – open-source MQTT/Home Assistant gateway

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on reverse-engineering the 2.4 GHz RF protocol used by some Inspire ceiling lights, and I now have a working open-source gateway that integrates them with Home Assistant through MQTT:

Inspire Gateway – GitHub

The gateway is built using:

  • Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-C3

  • Nice!Nano / Pro Micro-compatible nRF52840

The gateway can:

  • Receive and decode button presses from the original 2.4 GHz remote

  • Control the lights by publishing commands to MQTT

  • Use the original remote as a Home Assistant controller

  • Show live RF packets, decoded data, status, and settings through a web interface

I’ve tested it with the Inspire Gdansk 59.5 × 59.5 cm and 119.5 × 29.5 cm ceiling lights shown in the repository.

The longer remote I have looks identical to the one documented under FCC ID 2ANO4-25W2R4G. I bought mine around five years ago and no longer have the original model label, but the gateway successfully receives and transmits its RF protocol.

I used a HackRF to capture and reverse-engineer the signals. I also documented the complete AI-assisted reverse-engineering workflow in case anyone wants to analyze another remote or add support for another protocol:

Agentic RF Reverse-Engineering Guide

For RF range, the nRF52840 firmware is configured to use its maximum +8 dBm transmit power. I also added an external 2.4 GHz antenna, which improved the practical range significantly. With this setup, I can control all of the tested lights throughout my apartment, including through concrete walls.

The repository contains the firmware, wiring instructions, MQTT examples, Home Assistant configuration/discovery details, screenshots, captured commands, and protocol documentation:

Hopefully this is useful to anyone else with these Inspire lights.
