I am currently using Hass.io but I want to use the Pi for more than just Home Assistant so went to look at the AIO installer and it says it is now deprecated (which I think is a shame). The current installation guide says “This installation of Home Assistant requires the Raspberry Pi to run Raspbian Lite”. What happens if you install on Raspian Stretch with Desktop?

Why not run normal raspbian and install docker?
This is a minimum configuration. It will work fine with the desktop installed as well.

What is the benefit of that? Is there a guide to do that?

Thanks, the way it says requires makes it sound like it won’t work with anything else.

The benefit would be that you get to run a full desktop and hassio or just the docker container for HASS, without having to worry about package dependencies and versions…

Thanks, that sounds good, i will give it a try.
You can just follow the instructions on the dev guide and install as with any normal python package. Cheers
