Depends :

  • Zigbee2mqtt as addon : simpler installation, easy upgrade
  • Zigbee2mqtt on separate pi : you can put the pi (with the Zigbee stick) anywhere you want, which is often more central in the house to the Zigbee devices you want to control, having a stronger mesh

I run my Zigbee2mqtt on a separate pi, installed on bare metal (which gives the best performance)
