I’m fairly new here. I just got my the image installed on my flash card, but before I start configuring the network I have a few questions.
So, I’ll be primarily templating and debugging my Home Assistant on a potentially very secure network (at a Hospital–where I work). I was wondering what my recourse would be to be able to template and debug offline, or with minimal configuration changes as I move between my work and my home…
If I can install some firmware onto my Raspberry Pi 4 while I’m at home to make working on the system while I’m away from home easier, that would be ideal! I can bring everything but the network with me basically.
Have you considered setting up ssh and logging into the system at work from home? After it is up and running you could remove ssh if you wanted to close that access route. Not having all the sensors at home will be a non starter.
The goal is to be able to edit my system from work, in an environment that could be easily ported to my at home network, while being offline (because my work network is likely VERY secure).
I think you’re suggesting I set up an SSH so that I can access my network at work from home, but I kind of need to do the opposite (access my network at home from work)… That’s a cool idea. It seems a little complicated though. There’s no way to just do it offline and avoid the SSH shenanigans?
I’ve considered this too, and I have mobile hotspot available to me. I just wasn’t sure if the network configurations would be simple or if it’s all hidden behind some mobile OS bulls***…
I asked around in the discord a bit, and a solution a friendly user gave me was to simply connect my Pi to my laptop and assign my Pi a static IP then access that IP via my laptop browser.
The downside is that you won’t have access to the devices on your home network or any cloud connected devices. You also won’t be able to upgrade or install anything.
