i saw someone installing HA onto their old Nexus tablet and figured i could do the same thing on the Mi 4k android box. i am happy to say it actually worked for me! BUT if the box restarts for whatever reason, HA wont auto start itself.
i have termux:boot installed. opened the app. exit. then i ran these commands in termux:
mkdir -p ~/.termux/boot
cd ~/.termux/boot
nano haboot
restarted my Mi Box to verify if the script works or not. verified the ip address is still the same, it is.
opened my browser and went to 192.168.1.61:8123 but nothing loads up this time.
did i do something wrong?
please help!
Can’t help you with your issue, just want to point out that this setup will give you more headache than anything else, you’ll get so many issues going forward it’s just not worth it. I highly recommend to NOT use this TV box for Home Assistant.
may i ask what kind of issues?
the author did it using his old Nexus tablet. i figure this is a great way to use my old gadgets too. my samsung S7 is next if i can get this android box working.
You’ll get issues because it’s not supported at all and also this TV box is not really appropriate for a Home Assistant server. Later when you want to add a USB stick to integrate Z-Wave or ZigBee devices you’ll have the next problem because that’s probably not going to work with this TV box.
Why do you even want to have multiple Hone Assistant installs? I think you don’t understand how Home Assistant works.
You only need one Home Assistant install and you can then access it from your tablet or phone either via a webbrowser or through the Android companion app.
it’s for family n friends.
i dont want to use rpi3 or 4. although that’s probably the fastest way to deploy seeing how i can easily clone mSD cards.
i rather use old phones n tablets laying around.
What do you mean for family and friends? Are these tablets and phones constantly powered? How do you wanna attach a USB stick to an old phone to add zigbee/zwave devices to your smart home?
What do you want to do with Home Assistant, I think you misunderstand what Home Assistant is.
the zwave stick will attach via the OTG cable. it has a splitter to also power the phone.
so instead of how my HA is running on rpi4 with SSD, i will install for my brother first using my old phone. his whole house will have HA running on a samsung s7. the whole brain n operation on s7.
