Installing Home Assistant on a RBpi4 8GB

Hi all!

I am a new user to Home Assistant and have recently bought myself a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB with a Sandisk Extreme MicroSDXD 64GB. I am running into trouble when I try to install Home Assistant to my RBPi. Just to be perfectly clear and transparent, these are the steps I have done so far:

This is where everything stops. Nothing happens when I go to this URL, I only get “This site can’t be reached”. I have tried to re-flash the image and done all the steps from the beginning several times but nothing works. Then it hit me, can it be a problem that I have connected the RBPi to a switch that is connected to a Wifi-router? Do I need to be connected with a ethernet cable from my computer as well?

Well guys (and gals), you see that I am struggling and I’m in desperate need of help.

Thanks in advance!

Insert the SD-card directly into the slot on the RPi and restart, i.e skip the USB card reader.

Well, that worked like a charm. Feel stupid that I didn’t even try that one out first! Thanks Calle

Just as a friendly advice, even though that your setup is prefect to start with, Home Assistant is pretty aggressive with the read/write from/to the SD-card. Therefore in the long run it’s preferred to use for instance an SSD-drive instead to reduce the risks.

Because of these issues, be frequent in backing up already from the beginning and save these files elsewhere in case of emergency.

In addition to @Calle 's post, this is a really great addOn for backups, highly recommended, not only by me:

I don’t do new installs very often, but this is always my first addOn to install!
