Insteon configuration panel

I concur, great work! The IOlinc showing the correct state is the first thing I noticed :slightly_smiling_face:
Regarding your other question, under the entities list (settings, devices & services, entities) you can rename the entity thereā€¦ dunno if thereā€™s any downside to doing so.

Yes you can. I do it all the time with Insteon, Zigbee and Z-Wave entities with no downside except, if you remove the integration thus removing the entities from HA and then re-add the integration, the entities will be back to their default ID and youā€™ll have to edit them all again. 5 or 6 not a big deal; 30 or 40 though would be a bit more of a pain!

Thank you so much for all your hard work continuing to improve/enhance the Insteon integration. Today I did the 2022.8.5 update and my two 2477SA1 Load controllers auto discovered and presented as new devices. Added to my schedules, life is good.

On behalf of all the Insteon Migrants, thank you.

Hey, congrats on the great job done.
I have noticed that some devices are not being activated from the interface. Worse, you activate and after some seconds, they go back to their previous status.
Have you observed that?
Thanks.

Edtech - no I have not experienced any issues. I did bite the bullet and hard reset each device and network reset the 2245 hub. My setup is pretty simple, half dozen 2477S switchā€™s, half dozen 2457D2 dimmers, 3 leak sensors, 2 lamplink plugin dimmers and 2 of the old 220v load controllersā€¦

All work great, I have no ā€œghostā€ scenes and the integration into HA was seamless. I use the Simple Scheduler to manage daily schedules and I have some lights triggered by motion sensors in my home alarm system that I was also able to add as an integration (Alarm.com)

Hope that answers your questions.

I hve 4 dimmers that have been working great since intsteon went down and i got home assistant.
I have 2 on/off switches that i cannot access from home assistant. It just shows that the light is on all the time according to the icon and does nothing when i press it.
However the light switches work fine when i manually press them.
Any ideas?

I tried using the app again now that insteon is supposed to be back up. but it says my HUB is offline and it has the wrong ID listed for my HUB. I dont imagine anyoine is going to reply to my email from their page.

Try to hard reset the switches (pull out the little clear tab under the rocker, that air gaps the device and clears all settings)/ Then try to add from the Insteon Configuration page in HA.

If that fails, if your installation is modest, you can always hard reset the hub and all devices , delete and reinstall the Insteon integration then add your devices. That is what I did (14 easily accessible devices) and I have had no issues. Currently on 2022.8.5.

Thanks for the reply. I did do a full reset pulling out the tab like you said. However I still see it listed on the configuration page in Home Assistant. Is there something I manually have to do in the config file or something to get rid of it? And to be honest I guess Iā€™ll look it up but I donā€™t even know how to manually add one using Home Assistant when I first did this when the integration just got started I had to hold the button down on the hub then on the switch and then vice versa.

Iā€™m on 22.7. While Iā€™m sure nothing bad will happen sometimes I feel like I have terrible luck so resetting the hub scares me lol I suppose Iā€™ll do it if I have to though

Have you tried just turning on logging and see if something stands out ā€¦ or report things here for us?

In configuration.yaml:

logger:
  default: error
  logs:
    homeassistant.components.insteon: debug
    pyinsteon.topics: debug
    pyinsteon.messages: debug

In my setup I have lots of things ā€¦ this is one one of two hubs:

No issues with anything. I am sure it is solvable without going crazy but you have to help us diagnose.

First of all let me start by saying 51 devices? I am jealous LOL I hope to God these new owners can do well enough to bring the product back because these Kasa switches are ugly but Iā€™ve been using it in meantime LOL

So the big giant + on the Insteon page that was staring me in the face I kind of figured thatā€™s what I pressed to add a device back. It turned out not to work initially because I guess the switch was out of range but I had a couple dimmer plug-in boxes collecting dust I plugged one of those in right near the switch in boosted the signal enough to
Allow me to pair the switch again. So as of this morning it appears to be working. I guess the dimmer box has a greater range? Just a guess

It is what I predicted. The log can contain further diagnostics like the number of hops to get to the switch. If it did not complete in 3 then it aborts. And having 51 devices helps considerably because do not have that issue, its lie having 51 little routers in my home.

I had no idea that the insteon mesh kind of works like z wave. Didnt know more devices made everything stronger. I had asked you guys a question a long time ago about another switch that was very intermittent with response, and based on where it is behind a cement wall , i am pretty sure its the same issue. I have another one of those dimmer boxes ill be putting in place shortly near by. thanks for the help. Have a good one.

You may want to also insure that you have a phase bridge installed (if youā€™re in the US and maybe some other countries). Originally these were mandatory for Insteon devices because they only communicated over the electrical wiring. Now, with the dual band devices (hard wired and rf), they are optional. It only needs to be two dual band devices in close proximity. One on a red circuit and one on a black circuit. This will insure that signals are being passed between the red and black phases since they arenā€™t physically connected except through the utility companyā€™s transformer winding.

As I stated, phase bridging isnā€™t mandatory now that Insteon is (or was) producing the dual band devices but it could improve your signal since signals can theoretically travel further over the builtin electrical wiring than with rf being transmitted through the house structure.

Disclaimer*
I am only experienced with US electrical systems. Some countries could and probably do use single phase or three phase systems which would alter the necessity for the phase bridging. This wonā€™t apply to everyone.

Does anyone know if the ApplianceLinc 2456S3 is supported in the Insteon integration?? Is there a list of supported devices?

I am having a problem with the Insteon Configuration panel not loading any devices, although I have 40 devices showing in the integration and responding to events.
I have reloaded the page, restarted multiple times, and hit the computer to free up any frozen bits, to no effect. I am not seeing anything wrong in the log with debugging on.
Does anybody have any ideas on what to try next?

Hello all, sorry for going dark for so many months. I have had two very large projects going on at my day job that have consumed all most all my time.

Good news, I just posted a pull request to allow scenes to be edited in the Insteon Panel. Here is a quick screen shot:

When you click on the scene it displays a scene editor:

Hoping this will be part of release 2023.02.

Scene management is a great addition - thank you! I use scenes in a couple places and managing them has been a bit of a pain.

Thank you for your continued work to advance/maintain this integration, just want you to know how much it is appreciated :+1::+1:

@kbrown01 I really appreciate all the work youā€™ve put into this! I have been working to integrate this into my instance and Iā€™m having a couple issues with getting it to work in my environment that I was hoping maybe you could guide me in the correct direction.

My Scene Groups start at 7 so Iā€™ve been able to work that but what Iā€™m seeing is that when my groups are formed they are made of lights and the actual devices donā€™t show when I select Scene and the Groups are Unknown with no Toggle.

Also, I canā€™t seem to figure out why the Target Insteon Device isnā€™t building automatically, it stays as Loading until I manually run the Automation.

Iā€™ve gone as far as to factory reset everything to clear the ALDB an rebuild everything in the Insteon Director App. Iā€™m hoping that I can ditch the subscription eventually and this is one of the things Iā€™d really enjoy helping to refine and make better. However, Iā€™m definitely not the best at Jinja2.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would wait just a bit for @teharris1 to get his scene things into his panel. Mine was a stop gap measure really, to help people understand what was there. It is trying to parse the local JSON file that is used as a cache for insteon devices. @teharris1 has done it right, the way it should be.

There are serious timing issues when trying to use lovelace to populate things that may not be read yet, like my explorer does get out of whack on a reboot and the devices are not ā€œreadyā€ to be populated into the widgets.
