Is the Insteon Siren supported in the current version of the Insteon integration?
Since the shutdown of Insteon last April, I started using HA for scheduling and Alexa support. I am able to migrate all of my 70+ devices to HA except for the Sirens. When adding the siren via the “add all link”, it says it added it. However, it doesn’t show up in the device list. I also tried adding via the override to no success. When I checked the links in the hub, it is listed there as ‘in use’ under ‘generic general controller’. I have factory reset the siren multiple times to make sure all previous links are marked unused.
I would like to use the siren in conjunction with water leak sensor to monitor my water heater and under sink locations.
I decided to just do it with VLC media player to play MP3 (siren sound, etc.) and Alexa media player to broadcast custom messages to my Echo devices. Works like a charm!
I connected a USB speaker to my headless NUC running HA OS.
I took your suggestion and changed the Cat and SubCat in the Insteon JSON file. Restarted HA and the device showed up in the list of devices in the Control Panel as a SwitchLinc. I then made the switch to show as siren. Seems to work!
As I posted earlier, I also now have an option to use TTS via Alexa Media Player and echo devices, as well as through playing audio files (mp3) using VLC Media Player via a USB speaker connected to my NUC.
Having these 3 options is great, and I don’t have to get rid off my Inteon sirens.
I’m seeing there was a solution to this Insteon siren issue, but I’m not seeing the details of the Insteon JSON file changes. Are those posted elsewhere? Thanks!
