The insteon got a new update on this release and it added great features like fix broken links or delete links. It also fixed the missing button captions that ppl complained about. These will definitely prevent me for the time being from trashing my insteon network.
I also see a download option by device adlb records, does anyone know how i can reimport this into a new plm? Otherwise i don’t see the benefit of this option.
@dduff617 Thank you but I really need to appologize for taking so long to fix those issues.
@Wolf-dotcom regarding the export feature. The goal of that is to have a backup of your ALDB in case a device goes bad. This way you can recreate the ALDB in a new device easier. Using this to import back into a modem is not very useful because if the device is not linked to the modem it will not respond to the new modem so importing the ALDB does not do much good.
One of the next features is for easier device replacement. This way if a switch, outlet or KPL dies, you can link the device to the modem then import the ALDB backup and the new device will look like the old device. Not there yet but that is the idea.
If you replace the hub or PLM, you have to relink the devices to it manually. It’s meant to be a security feature; otherwise anyone could just plug a PLM in nearby and start mucking with your setup. But it’s kind of a weak security feature, since messages are spoofable and eavesdroppable.
But I love the idea of being able to replace a device and have the old links get migrated to the new device.
Someday, what I’d really love is a more user-friendly interface for adding entries to the ALDBs. “Make Button B on this device turn on that device to 50% brightness, with a 30 second ramp rate.” And it would create both the controller and responder ALDB entries.
