How to integrate HA with an I2C relay board without ESPHome?

There is relay board on XL9535 chip with I2C interface, for example https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805588736472.html

  • GPIO integration was removed (including SPI and I2C)
  • Integration through ESPHome Xl9535 integration

I’d like to understand is it possible to integrate HA with I2C devices without ESPHome?

The most likely way to do this is using MQTT and create the entities thru MQTT Discovery.
