Integration for Boldr Devices?

This company makes some nice smart heaters. Does an integration exist or does anyone know if the communication protocol is a standard or proprietary?

Their site says it works over wifi and I can’t find anything here so I assume it proprietary?

Following up with the the solutions that I ended up going with. After talking with Boldr support, their api is private and they dont have a current integration. as of Dec 2024 a HA integration was on the development timeline scheduled for Q2 2025.

I ended up buying a wexstar(www.wexstar.com) heater hooked up to a smart plug. its working great and I think its an overall better solution for those of us who would like more control and a simpler setup. The smart plug give me all of the data that I need (current usage, the ability to turn it on and off etc) and what you would get with the more integrated Boldr product. its probability a cheaper solution too.

Overall an IR heater is a great solution for a room that just need a little additional heat. However it wont work well as a primary source of heat however. The heating is a little bit slower, but more consitatn than my old space heater. Which got way to hot way to quickly and I ended up turning it on and off a bunch ping ponging between temperatures. For my office that I like to keep a little warmer than the rest of the house and I spend a ton of time in its great. IMO its also aestheticly more pleasing and easier to mount and find a place for. It looks like a blank picture frame and you can easily mount them somewhat flush again any wall or even ceiling.

The support says Matter is coming in a software update

I spoke with the CEO/ Founder on a call this am and HomeKit/Matter should be available in two weeks from today give or take a few days (8/21/25) they have it working they were just getting the certification.

I’m very glad to hear this. I reached out in May and they said it would be done then. Then another several months without an update even though they said several times it was a few weeks ago. I so wish they were transparent about a roadmap.

Ah, I got into a chat this week… they said 2 weeks, haha.

I had the exact same conversation. The rep said that the device was already certified but that the app needed to be updated to accommodate the Matter changes. He also said that HomeKit integration was contingent on these changes. From that conversation, it appears that you cannot just scan the Matter code from Home Assistant but rather it needs to be added to the Boldr app first and then it creates a code. Not exactly ideal. I’ve tried adding the Matter code directly through HA but no luck.

This was after I asked about the update in early August and he told me to check back at the end of September. I wish I could say that I’m hopeful about this. The reason I’m so interested in this is because I’m not confident the service will remain up in the long term, and I don’t want to be reliant on them.

  1. Good news, Today my boldr app prompted me to install a new version, which had instructions on how to add my klima to home assistant using Matter.
  2. Great news, I have a home assistant and the matter addon, have a dongle in case it wanted to do it over thread (it does not, it uses wifi).
  3. Awesome news, the instructions said i would find a pairing option under settings, and I did!!!
  4. Small bump on the road, it didn’t really detect it in pairing mode, but that could be on me.
  5. Incredible news: my klima went into software update mode. Surely, the new firmware was needed to make this work, and it was going to be a walk through the park once updated
  6. Sad news: the pairing option in the settings menu is now gone. The firmware update took it away. I just hope that doesn’t mean my klima is too old to support it or something. If that’s the case, I have a brick for their office windows

Contacted support, surely just a bug in the firmware update and nothing a new update can’t fix!

Thank you for keeping us updated.

I was also prompted for the update which I did, and it now shows HA instructions as well as HomeKit. However, like you, I was unable to get the device paired through Matter. I tried both with HA and with HomeKit, but it never got past the “Connecting …” stage. I know that I was on 2.4 GHz and on an SSID on which it has worked before, and I’m also within 15 feet of the router. So, I don’t think it’s me, and I doubt it’s you.

If you hear anything more, please respond as I’m curious to see where they’re at. They also told me there was going to be an email announcement but that hasn’t happened either.

I’m anxious to get this working!

Waiting for an answer from the dev team now… Fingers crossed!

Soo… turns out I had a super old device and it didn’t support Matter. I used to integrate this one via google assistant custom sdk (basically, I added my boldr klima to google home and then had home assistant send voice commands to control it (automation sending “what’s the current temperature?” → parse the response to get current and configured temp and the state (on/off) + some scripts to change the configured temp or turn it on or off), but that stopped working SDK responds with zero output · Issue #36 · tronikos/google_assistant_sdk_custom · GitHub. So I thought it was worth going back to the way it was supposed to work.

Waiting for my new Klima now, it’s been a rough ride, but all in all, it works quite well and looks nice too.

I too have been waiting patiently for the Matter integration. Was excited to see Home Assistant via Matter in settings for the version 3.0 app, only to disappear in the next iteration, with version history mentioning it was changed. Now we’re up to 3.0.4 and still no Matter info. I wonder if they are waiting for firmware updates to be applied first.

3.0.5 of the Android version of the Boldr app and still no Matter info.

So I have my gen 2 klima now, but in the same boat: the home assistant option disappeared from my app again. I can see the firmware of my klima has a name that mentions matter, but nothing in the menu. I guess we’ll have to wait a bit more for them to re-enable it, but at least it feels we’re close now!

I contacted their support (Submit a request – Help Center) and got a firmware update pushed and found the matter pairing option in the settings. It seemed to work but then got stuck in pairing, with HA timing out and giving up. I had to reboot my klima (just pull it off the stand or pull the plug) and then, as by magic, it worked!

I just had the same experience! I was told to delete the app and then reinstall it, and to also power cycle the devices. Doing both did the trick. Now, are you finding that the HA integration is in sync with the device? I turned it off using the HA switch, but nothing happened. Not sure if it’s a Matter or Boldr thing.

Did you have the same issue?

So I called customer support - looks like the Gen1 is NOT compatible with Matter. They are sending me 2 new Gen2’s (and I can keep the Gen1’s). Not sure how long this opportunity will last.

I just purchased 3 Kelvin Large heaters - something to keep in mind the heaters do not support matter, the Klima (thermostat / controller) does so you will pair the Kelvin to Klima and Klima to HA via matter …

Wont say how I found that out - but lets say I am now waiting for Kilmas to be delivered

I was able to add their Klima thermostat to HA with matter, but it doesn’t provide controls for the panel heater. It only gives very basic thermostat fan controls (no temperature, just on/off and fan low/med/high).
