Integration to Samsung TV "works"... but not optimally

I’ve been trying to integrate to my Tizen-based Samsung TV (UA55NU7100K).

When it works, it works well. But when it doesn’t it’s really a frustrating experience.

My experience is that there’s something funky about on / off state. If I toggle between them, one way or the other, a wait time of some 30-60 seconds is always required, before the state can be toggled again. So, turning it on means I can’t turn it off for 30-60 seconds, or vice versa.

While I’m fairly technical, I’m too new to HA to get a bearing if this is a HA state-related issue or a problem on the TV side. I am inclined to say it’s the former because of these observations:

  • When I turn on the TV, sometimes the media player card will toggle to be visually on then immediately got back to off state again. After a while, it’ll switch to on mode again.
  • I tried making some custom TV remote virtual buttons to send commands. They’re only supposed to be visible when the TV is on. Again, it takes time for them to be visible.

I’ve tried both the standard Samsung TV integration and the Samsung Tizen integration in HACS.

Very curious to hear any ideas about this.

I have samsung tv and it is truly frustrating experience with it.
I just gave up on this.
Problem might be in samsung os that their tvs are using.

They just sometimes lose connection or just disconnect from the network by their own and this is what you see that tv became unresponsive or even need to be paired again with ha.

Android tv with built in chromecast is much better option.

Aw that’s unfortunate, but maybe not a surprise given the age of this TV. Do you have any indication if the issue also exists with newer Samsung TVs?

But, to be honest, it feels like I’m reaching the end of use for the smart parts of this TV. Through updates the apps seems to grown beyond the ram and CPU this TV offers - in particular Plex, which is a lagging experience at best. And Jellyfin is not available in the app store. Because of this I’m low key considering an external device to take over… Apple TV or some such.

I don’t know but I know that i will never buy Samsung tv again. They made it too complicated, doesn’t run android, no play store, no apps like jellyfin and such.
On top of everything else there is constant struggle with it in home assistant.
It’s just too much hassle for little to no gain out of it.
