I am going to be setting up an internal DNS to my House. I was wondering if there is a HASS integration with a standalone dns server. Basically I want to know if there is one with a HASS frontend.
I have been using HASS for about 8 weeks now, and am loving it!
HASS would use any DNS it is set to use (actually it is set on OS level in networking). DNS is standard service so each works the same. It does not matter which one you use, except in very unusual network configurations which, I believe, is not the case in your network.
I want to be able to Change DNS settings and ADD DNS entries from HASS. Basically use HASS as a front end for DNS. Just wanted to know if there was an integration for such a thing.
Having custom local DNS server is not simple task. Most solutions you could faind are just DNS caches maybe with options to add custom A records. More than that requires full fledged DNS server, and those are not build with goals to allow users to change DNS entries with some simply API calls.
CentralCommand, I will look at Adguard, I realize that Home Assistant will not be the DNS Server.
pedjas, DNS servers are never “simple”. my PI Hole, does OK, but I wanted a work space for DNS. Just hoping that someone had build a integration for HASS and some DNS server. back in the Day, I ran DNS on suse linux, that was a lifetime ago. two decades ago, dam I am old… I dont want to install a full DNS server and deal with a and c records. Right now I have a bunch of VM’s in proxmox a couple with External access. I dont want to have my traffic go out my internet and back in. I just want to set the domain name to the internal IP. But Chrome is detecting spoofing…
