Internal vs External URL

I’m using split-DNS to access HomeAssistant through my nginx (on premise) reverse proxy.
If I’m on my own WiFi it resolves to an internal IP address, and ‘outside’ it resolves to my public IP address. As such, my internal URL and external URL can be equal.

No I suspect that when I’m on another (not mine) WiFi, it also registers as ‘home’, can anyone confirm this? And if so, how can I prevent this? Would this also be the case if I connect through a VPN terminated at my home network?

Presence detection is completely unrelated to the URL you use to access HA.
