I have built an iOS app and integration to link Apple Health with Home Assistant with simple setup! You can check it out here:
It has pretty regular syncs (even while your phone is locked), shortcuts to support the syncs and an Apple Watch app to keep updating the data when the iPhone won’t provide it.
There is a monthly subscription fee of $1.99 after a week free trial
Your app looks very promising, but requiring a subscription just to sync my health data with Home Assistant? That’s a dealbreaker for me.
I’d be happy to make a one-time purchase, but I’m not willing to pay a monthly subscription solely to integrate my health data into Home Assistant.
It would be nice to create my own health dashboard, but honestly, it’s not important enough (I think for most other users as well) to justify a subscription.
If I understand the technology correctly, the app on an iPhone is needed to transmit the health out of Apple’s walled garden and into HA. I also understand that Apple is squeezing small and open-source developers with fees even giving away stuff through their App Store. It’s not unreasonable to charge a one-time fee to cover the download charges from Apple, but I agree on the subscription charge being a deal-breaker.
With that said, I’m not a potential customer of this app because I don’t use HA’s dashboards for anything…
Got it all setup and working great. Unfortunately it’s displaying metric (KG, KM) instead of imperial (LB, MI) etc. Can’t use it until that’s an option. Not sure if it’s using Fahrenheit or Celcius. Willing to pay but not until that’s added.
inside home assistant you can adjust all metrics to suite you
If you are finding certain metrics dont have units or have incorrect units please let me know, with it syncing over 75 metrics and my apple watch being a few generations behind its a lot to keep track of
The major difference is its syncing ability. My app can sync throughout the day with a target of every 30 minutes, with your iPhone locked. There’s rarely a need to open the app once it’s been set up.
This then allows you to do prompt automations based on this data.
There are also improvements to the setup process, streamlining this for the less technical users
I regularly get requests for a free option so here it is!
Simple tap to sync your apple health data to home assistant. With an optional subscription to automate background syncs through the day, even when your phone is locked!
