The suggestions here iOS app to push to MQTT (unless I’ve skim read too badly!) don’t seem to cater for MQTT publishing from the IOS app - and seems like more of a workaround to get data onto MQTT just so OwnTracks can see it in the history…)
It’d be good if the IOS app would have an option to publish location data etc via MQTT because of security. Personally, I will never expose my home automation to the web; its just not a good idea for many reasons and SSL is no silver bullet… if location data was pushed back via MQTT from the IOS app then I would never have to expose my system to the wonderful world of hackers.
Hopefully the IOS app can have an option to allow this too - meaning that it’d only need the http(s) connection to the box if you wanted to load up the UI - when I want that away from home, I’ll VPN in.
