IOTTY Switch Use Anyone?

Hi Everyone,

I love the look of the IOTTY switches, but it’s a no go unless it works with Home Assistant.

Has anyone used or can it be used with HA?

I have one, it doesn’t have any open API support at all.
You can connect it to Alexa and probably reverse it from there, but nothing native.

Move along. I love the looks of it, the feel of it, it has huge possibilities, but I’m probably going to replace it because it basically cannot be automated.

I’ve played a bit with reverse engineering it, but it appears to be doing OSCP stapling for the SSL certificate (which is normally a “good thing”) but makes it impossible to actually reverse engineer it easily.

Just wanted to post an update to this…

I’ve actually kept my Iotty wall switches. I ended up connecting them to HA via an Alexa bridge (Alexa can see them and control them, so I then exposed an Input Boolean from HA to Alexa, If Alexa sees the Input Boolean turn on, it turns on the light, if it sees it go off, it turns it off.

Works fine, but is heavily reliant on Alexa obviously. I won’t be getting more of these unless we get a native integration or they open up the API.

I also exposed a Virtual Light to Alexa so that when Alexa turns the light on itself, it will switch that Light on or off. You can’t use the Input Boolean or you’ll end up with an automation loop of it turning on and off.

Hello Rob. Would you be so kind to help me do the same thing, please? I love Iotty smart switch as well and I would like to integrate it to my HA panel. Since I’m quite of a newbee, I’d appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance

Sure!

Hey Rob, I am currently in the market for smart switches and I’m extremely interested in the iotty ones. Having lived with it for a year now what’s your impression? Should I go with it for the looks or go with something like inovelli, NSPanel or C smart GE? Just thought I’d pick your brain.

Hey Chris,
I still have them, they still work fine. Once I was able to get them set up and working in HA, they’re relatively seamless and I still do like the looks (as does my wife).

Ultimately, having to rely on Alexa to actually turn them on and off is a bit clunky, but in reality, once they’re setup and working, it’s no different than any other light switch. I wish they had an open API, I wish they had native HA support, but I don’t think that’ll happen. I won’t invest in more of them though and I’ll keep waiting for a better solution.

Thank you so much…though I love the look as well, I feel like I might want more function. I did reach out to the company and they expect to have a dimmable model by the end of the yr…so we will see if I go that direction or NS panel.

I have several of these in my home too, and I was able to integrate them through Google Home. Their website is teasing an upcoming 2nd gen, but that tease has been going on for at least a year now. Hopefully Gen 2 will have a public API!!

@pickerin Thanks for finding a workaround, i finally set this up with some iotty switches that i had installed pre- home assistant.

I went through the guide you posted on your website and it works great when controlling the light from home assistant. But when i manually hit the switch home assistant does not update.

I thought maybe i could set up another routine such that if i trigger the light manually or through alexa, it updates HA, but for some reason I can’t use my actual iotty light as a trigger in alexa.

Is this what you meant by “I also exposed a Virtual Light to Alexa so that when Alexa turns the light on itself, it will switch that Light on or off. You can’t use the Input Boolean or you’ll end up with an automation loop of it turning on and off.”

If so, can you share some rough steps on how to do that? Appreciate it (and sorry if you already posted that & I missed it). Thanks!

I know this is an older thread, and at one point I had thought about getting Iotty switch but didnt like that it wasnt directly compatible with HA. Now with this months update it looks like there will be an actual integration for it, which is amazing. Just thought I would mention that in here because I know I wasnt the only one wanting something like this.

I updated to version 2024.8. When I configure the integration, it returns this error:

error: invalid_request
error_description: The specified ‘redirect_uri’ is not valid for this client application.
error_uri: Error description | OpenIddict

I had the same experience. I opened an issue on GitHub iotty setup halted with an error · Issue #123398 · home-assistant/core · GitHub and I’m still waiting for a response.

This issue has been resolved! I was able to use the new iotty integration a few minutes ago.
