I installed IP Webcam on a tablet and get the camera nicely in Home Assistant.
Works perfect, except when IP Webcam isn’t on the front anymore (so running in background)… On that moment there is a fixed message on the screen saying ‘IP Webcam is unable to use the camera’.
This was working in the past (I don’t know exactly when it stopped working).
Do I need to upgrade to IP Webcam Pro ?
Anyone using the free version without any problem ?
Exactly! I don’t need or want to stare at the local camera feed.
It’s tremendously useful to have the camera streaming in the background or just have the “motion sensor” functionality available to control screen activation.
Have you enabled background streaming in the ‘optional permissions’ menu by chance?
Doing that, and launching the app you actually care about by hitting ‘run in background’ from the actions menu after you start the server should work. I think it gets around things by drawing a transparent overlay on the screen when you do that.
After hitting 'Run in background ’ I get the message ‘Ip Webcam is monitoring the area’…but after a couple of seconds I get the message ‘IP Webcam is unable to use the camera’.
Are you using Fully Kiosk or Wallpanel apps for HA? If so, disable all the camera options in those apps, otherwise they fight the IP Webcam for camera access. I had to do this and now all my motion and camera sensors come from IP Webcam instead of Wallpanel. I use wallpanel MQTT to keep the screen active while motion is detected (via frigate sensor) from IP Webcam feed.
