I’m very new to Home Assistant and everyone here has been so helpful. I now have 3 iPad’s using 3 views that work pretty good, lots of tweaking to go. My big issue is that Home Assistant is not running reliably on a full-time basis on these iPad’s. Each morning I will find one or two of the three iPads’s with the HA logo stuck in a reloading mode and going nowhere. Various steps can get things back but often in requires a device restart to clear it out and it instantly works fine. I have been tweaking things based on what I have found including making sure only the 3 iPad’s are on the 2.4 network and that it’s on an odd channel number, other stuff too. So far no real change. I have pretty much proven that the iPad’s are good by running a Blue Iris camera screen overnight on all 3 and no failures for multiple nights. Any thoughts
After three weeks of frustration and countless testing here is my somewhat scientific conclusion to troubleshooting iPad lockup’s with Home Assistant. The long and short of it is that the Home Assistant application is the problem, but left me add that the issue in my case is the desire to display multiple camera feeds (live or not) which may cause issues due to WIFI bandwidth. Without going into deep details of what I tested let me just say I tested EVERYTHING to try and get this working. Key however to my conclusion is that all my camera feeds are all provided via a Blue Iris server. Blue Iris has an app that runs on all platforms and allows you to display live views of all cameras at once. That application can run for days on my iPads without issue, not a single freeze.
Also as one last test I built a Lovelace dashboard that had all kinds of cards on it but NO camera images at all, it too will just run for days. So that’s how I reach the conclusion that the Home Assistant application is the issue, I even ran it in a browser by using https://xxx.xxx.xxx:8123 and in that way it locked up as well.
As always thoughts and comments are encouraged as I learn more about this new platform the deep knowledge here is so helpful.
