Iphone activity automotive

Hi all, what am i missing as to why this condition wont trigger, seams pretty simple. iphone is reporting automotive but when i test it, it never passes

condition: state
entity_id: sensor.zephone_activity
state: automotive
for:
  hours: 0
  minutes: 0
  seconds: 1
attribute: Types

How are you getting your iphone to recognize when you are driving?

the home assistant app just recognises it, not sure if it does it by speed, or that your connected to a car via bluetooth, but when i open the HA app, its got it right there

Interesting! I’ve never noticed that for either mine or my husbands phones. I’ll have to check next time he is driving!

anyone at all ever used this condition?

Automotive…
In my experience (iPad Air 2, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6S+) the Companion App shows a current position in 95% cases only when the App is open; when the App is not open - 5% probability that it shows a position & battery_level.
Surely “background app refresh” settings is ON.
OK, these are old devices, probably this fact explains why the App is absolutely not reliable.

Sensor update is overall unreliable in iOS, regardless of giving the companion app any and all permissions. Android is light years ahead on sensors availability and accuracy. Of course, I understand that this is due to the innate restrictions of iOS.

Did you ever get this sorted? I want to use this as a trigger in an automation.
