I recently setup my HA and setup my iphone. And I have an automation setup to be executed when I leave the house. However, the automation never executes. I have looked at Activity and sure enough, HA does not seem to detect when the iphone leaves home. And it also says that Geocoded location is unavailable for the iphone. I have checked all the usual stuff on the settings for the iphone and they all seem correct. I do not yet have remote access to HA. Anyone have any tips on where to look?
Without this, how would you expect your phone to communicate back to HA when you are away from home? If you for some reason do not want remote access enabled, you could use presence based on wifi-connectivity.
I do plan to enable remote access. Just have not gotten around to do it. I WAS expecting HA to use WiFi connectivity to determine if my phone was in the same zone. How do I use WiFi connectivity to determine when my phone is away?
I use my home wlan to decide if I am home or not.
Use the device tracker for your phone (from the router) and set the delay to something like 180 seconds.
If you leave your WLAN, the device tracker will still report you as home for another 3 Minutes - after that it will toggle to not_home.
It is working now with the remote access sort of working. I setup remote access with Tailscale and got a URL that I can access through a web browser. This seems to work.
However, although I can use the external URL in a browser outside of my WiFi network, it does not work on the app. It has a strange behavior. When I am home and I turn off my wifi on my phone, it seems to be able to login directly from the app. However when I am not at home, it does not work! Any ideas?
Oddly enough, without making any adjustments, it all started working a couple days later. Go figure.
