I have a gen5 stick and just got a kwikset zwave plus lock. I tried setting a security key and adding the lock via add node secure but couldnt’ get the lock to respond or even send status. One post I saw said that security isn’t needed with z-wave plus. I also looked at my Zwave logs and saw “Warning, Failed - Network Key Not Set”
Did I screw up somewhere when I added the security key to my config or is this some other problem?
Just checking, did you restart HASS once you added the key? I don’t have a kwikset lock, but for my Schlage i definitely needed the security key and it took a few attempts at pairing.
for zwave plus on devices that have to exchange a security key, you need to be within a few feet from the device. if it’s just a general zwave or zwave plus without key, you should be able to pair it from anywhere… but the ones with the security key, you need to be right next to it during pairing. you don’t supply the key, they device and stick exchange keys during pairing. now you do need to set a key in your config as indicated in the docs. but that is for all devices. you don’t need to set a key for individual devices… see the network_key section
Thanks! This still goes in configuration.yaml right? I saw a post somewhere that was saying to put it in options.xml. I know the page you linked says configuration.yaml
It’s definitely in the config file. I rebooted hass and I’m still getting the same error.
My key is in the format:
0xef, 0x41, 0x7f, 0x28, 0xab, 0xe7, 0xac, 0x8d, 0x63…etc
